"On The Road with Dave" - Production Notes

Session Format
We are very flexible regarding your needs. We can work with whatever is the most comfortable format for your producer/host. An "interview" style about the "adventures" we've had or what we will be doing in the next few days works very well. This provides the advantage of the host leading, as well as allowing you complete flexibility over air time for breaks, spots, etc.

Alternatively by pre-arrangement, we can produce a remote report to your timing requirements, from any of the venues we will be visiting.

Both of these approaches may also be combined into the same session for the enjoyment of your audience.

Phoner
All sessions are phoners (unless we happen to be in your area), using JK Audio's RemoteMix 3 broadcast unit and a standard phone line. The RM3 enables us to increase/decrease our signal feed to you, making sound level control much easier during the show. We suggest a quick level check just prior to air time, after which we will lock our controls at the agreed settings ... unless specifically asked to re-adjust them.

An AKG shock mounted mic is fed to the RM3's XLR balanced input. The laptop computer sound library is linked to the mixer's digital input via an opto cable. Appropriate sounds can then be introduced and fed into the show as needed on either a voice-over or "specific sound bite" basis.

Sound Recording & Editing
While on location, appropriate sound bites, short interviews and perhaps even a short 5-10 second intro with ambient sound - are recorded in mono using the latest technology - a Marantz PMD670 solid-state recorder (better than CD sound quality).

The segments are then transferred to a Sony Vaio computer via a digital/opto link - to maintain sound quality. Sound software is used to edit the raw bites into finished segments. These are then cataloged and stored in the computer's sound library ready for appropriate use during a phoner session.

Credit
"On the Road with Dave" is provided as a free content service for your program. In return, and to help us reduce our long-distance phone costs, we would appreciate the use of either a toll-free studio line, or a call-back arrangement in which you phone back to our remote location after we have made the initial pre-air contact with you.

A mention of our best-selling travel books, "Along Interstate-75" & "Along Florida's Expressways" would also be appreciated during the program's extro (we will not mention the book unless you introduce it during the interview). Our books are available at 1-800-431-1579, as well as major bookstores. The price is $23.95(US) and $29.95(Canada).
