Special Deals for Vacationers
Let's face it, would you rather be digging snow out of your driveway this winter, wearing a heavy coat and awkward boots . . . or wandering along a sandy, palm fringed beach in your shorts, letting the sea wash between your toes?       I know what I would rather be doing.
To encourage you to head to the Sunshine State this winter, a number of local tourism offices have met with the hotel, motel and restaurant managers in their areas and put together special deals and discounts just for you.

Sorry . . . we are not aware of any special deals in this area . . . yet.

Hotels, Motels and Resort Lodging

Arguably, the state of Florida has more available accommodation for its visitors, than any other state of the Union . . . and these can range from a simple Kampground Of America (KOA) cabin to a full service resort. Here we offer some alternatives for this section of the "Sunshine State."

One of the nicest resort hotels in this area is the Daytona Beach Plaza Resort & Spa - Click here to enjoy a virtual visit to this lovely property.

If you have a website address for a favorite Florida hotel, motel, B&B or resort property in this area, please e.mail the information to Dave Hunter at mile_oak@compuserve.com

Attractions and Museums
There are so many fascinating things to see and do as you travel around Florida. From prehistoric archaeological sites to the space age technology of the Space Coast; from "native" Florida to the theme parks of Central Florida . . . there is something for everybody. Here we have provided links to the websites of the attractions in this area.

Ace of Hearts Ranch (Titusville) - trail horse riding on the sands or in the surf.

Adventure Landing Waterpark & Entertainment Center (Daytona Beach) - Putting golf course, arcade attractions and a themed family entertainment center water park guarantees fun for the entire family.

Art League of Daytona Beach (Daytona Beach) - A non-profit, admission-free education and exhibition center for the visual arts, the Art League of Daytona Beach is Volusia County's oldest art organization, founded in 1932.

A tiny Cruise Line (Daytona Beach) - Cruise at a leisurely pace in our 1890's style fantail launch "Fancy" only yards from shorelines, lovely estates, and historic downtown. A common excursion boat at the turn of the century "Fancy" is quite unique on the river today. Dolphins and wading birds are often close by as we glide past islands, parks and marinas. Experience the way things were done when the century was young.

Daytona USA (Daytona Beach) - car racing fans will love this official NASCAR museum.

Halifax Historical Museum (Daytona Beach) - this museum houses memorabilia from the early plantation period to the present. There is a fine research library with rare books, letters, manuscripts, and pamphlets relating to Halifax area history. The archives include approximately 10,000 photos, and over 5,000 postcards. We also have a large vertical file and newspapers dating back to the turn of the century. Some of the major artifacts exhibited include an 800 year old Timucuan dug-out canoe.

Jungle Adventures (Christmas) - one of the oldest, all-natural and native attractions in Florida. Their 20-acre park and wildlife sanctuary is dedicated to "eco-tourism," a unique experience for close encounters with native wildlife.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (Cape Canaveral) - embark on a space odyssey at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex throughout 2001. The past, present and future of America's space program are at your fingertips with the KSC Tour, which takes you to the award-winning Apollo/Saturn V Center, LC-39 Observation Gantry and International Space Station Center. Meet a real astronaut at Astronaut Encounter; enjoy two IMAX® theaters; experience the thrill of space travel at "Mad Mission to Mars 2025." A great day for the entire family.

The Museum of Arts and Sciences (Daytona Beach)- see the Atlantic Center for the Arts, above. The museum also includes a planetarium.

Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse (Ponce de Leon Inlet)- The days of the blue uniformed lighthouse keeper . . . checking his oil supply, slowly climbing the tower to clean the lens . . .have passed forever, yet his lighthouse remains. Built of bricks to serve as a functional warning device and possessing a very special beauty noted by seamen and landlubbers alike, the "Light Station at Mosquito Inlet" stands on an Inlet still dreaded by mariners. Completed in 1887 the old Mosquito Inlet Lighthouse, now known as the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is still active and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Seaside Music Theater (Daytona Beach) - For more than twenty years, Seaside Music Theater has been bringing professional musical theater to Central Florida. Conveniently located in Daytona Beach, Seaside entertains more than 40,000 guests every year. Popular standards, new works, lost American musicals, operettas and opera in English make up winter and summer seasons of glorious music, marvelous dancing, brilliant drama and toe-tapping fun.

Southeast Museum of Photography (Daytona Beach) - since 1987, this museum and resource center's goals have been ·to increase public awareness, understanding and appreciation of photography ·to exhibit, collect, preserve and interpret contemporary and historical photography, and ·to promote higher standards of education in the history, practice and application of photography.

Speed Park Motorsports (Daytona Beach) - go-karts, dragsters . . . the squeal of tires as they flash around the banked track . . . here is fast fun for all.

Sunny daze & Starry Nites Cruises (Daytona Beach) - take a relaxing ride down the Halifax River and into its creeks and tributaries. While aboard the "Native Son" you will see an assortment of Pelicans, Herons, Egrets, Turns and Willets along with other water fowl and maybe even some Manatee and Bottle Nosed Dolphins.

Shopping Malls and Outlet Centers
Like many other "Snowbirds," I enjoy trips to Florida shopping malls . . . especially if I know that snow is swirling in the north.

There's a perverse pleasure in being able to leave your car (no heavy boots, coats, snow shovel or ice scrapper) in the warm, sunny parking area and heading into the air-conditioned mall.

Fashions are always "summery" - even in January and everything always appears clean and fresh.

Here are some of the retail shopping malls (and let's not forget the factory outlets or antique malls) in this area of Florida.

The sun . . . golf . . . fresh air . . . Florida. They all seem to go together making the "Sunshine State" a golfers paradise.

Here you'll find links (pun definitely intended) to the area's golf courses and facilities. Enjoy!
